When you need to rotate PDF pages
The most common scenario is a scanned document where the scanner fed pages sideways or upside down. This happens frequently with multi-page scans on flatbed scanners or with mobile scanning apps when the phone isn't held perfectly straight.
PDFs assembled from photos taken on a phone can also have orientation issues — the photo metadata may indicate landscape but the PDF viewer ignores the rotation flag.
Sometimes only certain pages are wrong. A 20-page document might have 18 correct pages and 2 that are sideways. The rotation tool should let you fix individual pages without touching the rest.
How to rotate PDF pages on Irreva
Open the PDF Rotate tool and upload your PDF. The tool shows thumbnail previews of all pages so you can immediately see which ones need rotating.
Click a page thumbnail to select it, then choose 90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise, or 180°. You can select multiple pages and rotate them all at once. Use 'Rotate All' to apply the same rotation to every page in one click.
After rotating, download the corrected PDF. The rotation is saved permanently into the file — it won't revert when someone else opens it.
Rotation vs. flip — what's the difference
Rotation turns the page around a central point: 90° clockwise turns portrait into landscape, 180° flips it upside down. This is what most people need when fixing scanned documents.
Flipping (mirroring) reflects the page horizontally or vertically. This is less common but sometimes needed for printing to produce a mirror image. PDF rotation tools handle rotation; for flipping you'd need a different approach.
If you're not sure which rotation direction you need, rotate 90° and preview — if that's wrong, rotate the same page 90° again (two 90° rotations equal 180°) or go back and try the other direction.
After rotating: combine with other operations
If you've rotated pages and the document is still large, run it through Compress PDF to reduce the file size.
If you rotated pages in one document and want to combine it with another correctly oriented PDF, use Merge PDF.
For scanned PDFs where you also need to extract the text content, rotating correctly first will improve the accuracy of OCR — text recognition works much better on upright text.
