Why Android struggles with HEIC
HEIC uses HEVC compression, which Apple licenses and builds into iOS. Android support varies by manufacturer and Android version. Some newer Samsung and Google phones open HEIC in the gallery; many older devices show a broken thumbnail or an error.
Messaging apps often convert images on send, but original files shared via email, cloud links, or file transfer arrive as raw HEIC. Document editors, print shops, and social apps frequently reject the format.
